Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, which affects more than over 300,000 women each year. About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime (breastcancer.org). Communities and individuals come together all year long to help fight this battle and support women with breast cancer. You can show your support by hosting a fundraiser to raise funds to be donated to the continued research for a cure and effective treatments. Here are some different types of fundraisers you can create.

Race or Walk-A-Thons

One of the most common forms of fundraising is races or walk-a-thons. Walk-a-thons are one of the most popular fundraisers to host because they are a very effective way to gather people together for a great cause. You can team up with members of your community and breast cancer awareness organizations to create an amazing event.

Car Wash

Car washes have been used as a successful fundraising event by all different types of organizations. Gather a group of friends to dress up in pink and spend the day washing cars for an important cause. Although this isn’t an elaborate event, it still adds fun while spreading breast cancer awareness.

Pink Pumpkin Carving Contest

Aside from October being National Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is also one of everyone’s favorite holidays; Halloween. Coordinate with a local farm and host a pink pumpkin carving contest. This is a great opportunity to mix together fun fall activities with spreading breast cancer awareness.

50/50 Raffle Party

One of the oldest but still effective forms of fundraising is 50/50 raffle drawing. Get together with local businesses to put together creative winner baskets and prizes. You can host your raffle event at a local park and get community members to bring different plates of food, desserts, drinks and outdoor games to make it an all-day fundraiser.

All October long, foundations will be raising money to continue breast cancer research. For any of your outdoor fundraising events, make sure to have several portable restrooms on hand to accommodate everyone who’s participating. Afford-A-Potty can get you the best porta potty for your event. Call 1-610-553-6020 and let us take care of your porta potty needs.
