How To Give Back This Thanksgiving
The end of October brings us into the holiday season and is also a time of year to give back, especially on Thanksgiving. Many people don’t have the luxury of enjoying delicious food with family and friends and instead some are homeless, sick or simply have no place to go. If you want to give back in a meaningful way, check out these tips that can help others during Thanksgiving and beyond.
Donate to Food Banks
More than likely, we all have a few extra cans of food in our kitchen cabinets. Consider donating those cans to a local food bank. Contact a local food bank and determine what foods they need more of, sometimes even donating non-edible supplies will such as toothbrushes, soap, and paper towels work well too.
Volunteer At a Soup Kitchen
Spend your Thanksgiving serving food to those who are less fortunate. Many soup kitchens and shelters need assistance to serve the big crowds that come on Thanksgiving and holidays. Get your family and friends involved and donate time to those in need.
Visit a Hospital or Nursing Home
Being in a hospital or nursing home during the holiday season can be hard. Call your local hospital or assisted-living facility and find ways you can donate your time or determine the visiting hours and bring small gifts and good conversations to those who’s family cannot make it on Thanksgiving.
Donate to a Cause
If you don’t have time during the holiday season to volunteer, there are other ways to give back. You can donate to a local charity or cause that can help people across the nation. Do some research and find a cause that you are interested in helping out and make a donation for the holidays.
Perform a Random Act of Kindness
Do something nice for someone that you don’t know and it can have a positive impact on his or her life without you knowing it. Pay it forward and buy the person behind you their coffee, let someone go ahead of you at the store, or leave an extra tip at a restaurant for your server. Small acts of kindness can go a long way and should be performed all year around, not just during the holiday season.
