“Freedom is never Free” We’ve all heard these words before but have we ever really thought about what it means? If we ask a WWI, WWII, Vietnam, or War in Iraq and Afghanistan veteran they will know. Every November 11th we recognize Veterans Day as a federal holiday. This is more than just a three day weekend, take this time to reflect on why we celebrate this holiday.
Every veteran of the United States military has ever so selflessly signed away their lives to protect the country we live in. They’ve been absent from birthdays, holidays, graduations, the birth of children, and some have paid the ultimate sacrifice. They’ve done this all for the love of this country, and what it stands for, so we can continue to live the lives that we do. There are not enough “thank you’s” we can say to express gratitude for all these men and women, but this November let’s try to acknowledge them just a little bit more. Shaking the hand of an elderly with a POW hat and thanking him will go farther than you think. Listen to stories of warfare and try to gain a meaningful understanding of what it is these servicemen and women have gone through and their reasoning’s behind it. This simple recognition that should be made every day is especially meaningful now.
“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.” – President Woodrow Wilson 1919
Afford-A-Potty is proud to honor our American veterans this Veterans Day.
